Tenement Productions is an independent film and television company based in Glasgow, founded in 2025 by writer-producer Owen Thomas.
Like our sandstone predecessors, we are:
Built for growth
Bound by community
Crafted to endure
Our foundations are rooted in West Scottish working-class values — not to limit the stories we tell, but to anchor them in honesty, ambition, and a wee bit of anti-authoritarian bite.
We collaborate with talent from every floor of the close - because it’s the stories told in the stairwell that keep the lights on.
Owen Thomas has spent the better part of a decade telling stories across the UK and Ireland. Trained as a journalist, he worked in print, online, and broadcast, helping bring other people’s experiences to the forefront with care, curiosity, and respect.
After shifting into factual entertainment, his work spanned everything from observational documentaries to comedy panel shows — sharpening his eye for character and the messy, brilliant rhythms of real life.
But during the pandemic, something changed. Owen realised he didn’t just want to report on stories — he wanted to make his own. Stories rooted in imagination and lived experience, shaped by the places and people that raised him. Ideas for films and television had been simmering for years; it was time to learn how to bring them to life.
He was accepted into one of the world’s leading film schools, the National Film and Television School, joining the Producing Master’s with support from a BBC Film Scholarship. That opportunity opened the door to a number of firsts:
First film festival — pacing the Croisette in Cannes
First long-haul flight — pitching and meeting peers in Los Angeles
First parliamentary visit — discussing LGBTQIA+ representation surrounding his film debut at Westminster
In spite of these new experiences, he continues to do what he’s always done: chase the stories that won’t leave him alone.
