BAL MAIDEN | 2024

An award-winning short film starring BAFTA nominees Liv Hill and Abigail Lawrie, Bal Maiden is set in a 17th-century Cornish tin mining community, where two young women are caught in a relentless cycle of abuse and survival.

This was Owen’s graduation fiction film — a highly ambitious production that involved extensive logistical coordination to shoot on 35mm film, entirely at night, across remote locations in Cornwall and the South East. The project also required a detailed studio build to achieve the atmospheric world-building and scale necessary for a drama exploring big themes of power and morality.
